About Me

Building bridges between science & people.

I hold a B.S. in Neuroscience, with a minor in Sociology, from Trinity University, and I am originally from Houston, Texas. I have always been driven by a desire to understand and support others, while also encouraging and educating those around me to do the same. At the same time, I have long been fascinated by the many forces that shape who we are, such as our thoughts, behaviors, emotions, identities, and lived circumstances. Studying neuroscience gave me the opportunity to explore these questions through a scientific and academic lens, while sociology deepened my understanding of how social forces and lived experiences influence health, identity, and overall well-being.

My passion for neuroscience stems from a longstanding interest in the relationship between biology and environment. I am especially interested in how factors such as trauma, inequality, and community leave real, measurable effects on the brain and body. This intersection has fueled my deep commitment to health equity and to advocating for more accessible, personalized, and patient-centered healthcare options that honor the full complexity of each individual's experience.

Through my experiences in clinical care, research, hospice support, and public health advocacy, I have come to see that science and compassion must work hand in hand to create meaningful change. These opportunities have strengthened both my academic interests and my dedication to serving others, while reinforcing the importance of empathy in healthcare and research.

Beyond academics, I love reading, traveling, trying new places, and spending time outdoors, whether that means hiking, exploring somewhere new, or simply enjoying the sunshine. You can often find me at a new coffee shop or local market. No matter where I am, I am always drawn to learning more about people, their stories, and the systems that shape their lives.

Future Goals

Where I'm headed.

I hope to attend medical school and build a career centered on caring for others through compassionate, equitable, and patient-centered medicine. My academic experiences have strengthened not only my scientific understanding of health and the human body, but also my awareness of the social, cultural, and structural factors that shape how care is experienced and accessed. Together, these perspectives have deepened my commitment to serving others in ways that are thoughtful, informed, and grounded in empathy.

As I continue on this path, I hope to combine clinical knowledge with a genuine dedication to helping people through some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives. I want to become a physician who not only treats illness, but also sees each patient as a whole person shaped by their lived experiences, community, and circumstances. Ultimately, my goal is to use medicine as a way to make a meaningful difference in people's lives and to contribute to a healthcare system that is more compassionate, just, and responsive to the needs of all.

Academic Journey

Learning & growth.

Reflection

My academic journey has shaped the way I understand healthcare as both a practice centered around science and the human experience. Balancing the rigor of STEM coursework with my interest in social inquiry has challenged me to grow in ways that extend beyond the classroom. Through courses ranging from Integrative Biology and Neuropharmacology to Advances in Medical Sociology, I have learned to think critically, communicate clearly, and approach health from multiple perspectives.

One of the greatest challenges I have faced has been maintaining strong academic performance while balancing the many responsibilities and commitments that matter deeply to me. At times, my grades did not fully reflect the effort I was putting in, which taught me the importance of asking for help, prioritizing effectively, and building habits that are both disciplined and sustainable. These experiences strengthened my resilience and deepened my understanding of what it means to persevere in demanding environments.

Despite these challenges, I have grown tremendously. Through both coursework and hands-on experience, I have developed a strong foundation in the biological, behavioral, and social determinants of health. My science courses helped me understand the mechanisms underlying the human body and mind, while my studies in sociology expanded my perspective on how inequality, stigma, and social structures shape health outcomes and access to care. It was through this intersection that I discovered a deep passion for healthcare, understanding how ethical frameworks, lived experience, and structural inequities influence the way care is delivered and received.

One of my strengths has been my ability to connect broad ideas with real-world application. I have learned to bring together scientific understanding, human experience, and social awareness in the way I think about health and patient care. Through research and clinical experiences, I have grown more confident working in spaces that require both technical knowledge and empathy. At the same time, I have had to strengthen my quantitative reasoning and scientific writing, particularly in more research-intensive settings. That process has reminded me that growth is rarely linear, and that some of the most meaningful learning comes from working through complexity.

What makes healthcare especially meaningful to me is its interdisciplinary nature. My background in science has given me a greater appreciation for the body's complexity, while my studies in sociology have taught me to ask deeper questions about whose needs are prioritized, whose voices are heard, and how systems can better serve diverse communities. Together, these experiences have taught me to think holistically about people, health, and healing.

Overall, my academic experiences have helped me grow not only as a student, but also as a future healthcare professional, advocate, and lifelong learner. They have shown me that effective care requires more than knowledge alone—it requires empathy, reflection, and a commitment to equity in every aspect of the patient experience.

Study Abroad

In Spring 2024, I studied abroad in Copenhagen, Denmark, where I explored global health and neuroscience through both coursework and collaborative research. I took Health Beyond Borders, which offered a comparative view of international healthcare systems; Legacies and Ethics of Nazi Medical Crimes, where I examined how historical atrocities shaped contemporary medical ethics; and Cognitive Neuroscience of Creativity, a course that investigated how the brain generates and processes creative thinking.

As part of my program, I also participated in research focused on HIV and fertility access. This work explored the structural and medical challenges faced by people living with HIV in pursuing parenthood, and it allowed me to apply both a sociological and medical lens to complex issues of health equity. My time in Copenhagen helped me grow intellectually and personally. It expanded my global perspective, strengthened my ability to work across disciplines, and deepened my commitment to ethical, inclusive approaches to health and medicine.
